It's cold and wet here today in Te Kauwhata, New Zealand. Perfect weather for crafting and working on websites!

I'm excited to announce the launch of my online store Kiwi Card House. Here you will find handmade crafts included decoupage candles, pots, vases, handmade cards and many more goodies. I'm still busy uploading products. I will be uploading regularly as there is always new products being made and ready for selling.

As I may have mention in a previous post, I am a designer on Crafts U Print. Due to having my own website, many of my designs will now ONLY be available through the website and also available as ready to purchase card kits including everything you need to make the cards. Check them out HERE

Over the past week I have been working on new handmade cards to stock up the shop.
I love vintage stuff so when I saw these vintage sewing machine images I knew they would be perfect for card making.

Yes the cotton is real!

Rabbits are also another favourite of mine due to having rabbits as pets when I was a child and still having pet rabbits to this day because life just isn't the same without a pet rabbit!

Weekend Card Making Session

Hello there

It's a beautiful sunny winter day here in New Zealand today. Loving the cooler weather and enjoying the lovely blue skies with Mr Sunshine shining bright...best of both worlds indeed!

Yesterday I finally got around to getting stuck into my birthday gift from Mum ( 3 back issues of Make Cards magazine) oh what fun I had!

April 2019 Issue 18
I started with April 2019 Issue 18. I was pleased when I looked through this magazine to see the ' Under the Sea' nautical themed papers which are great for making cards for males, which I find I never seem to have enough of! I tend to make cards that lean more towards females... all girly and pretty and have been asked many times at markets and in my gift shop for male themed cards.

So, I started with 2 designs from the magazine, Best Fishes & Birthday Wishes which I really liked. I've made mine slightly different by adding gems and twine ribbon.

Best Fishes

Next I designed my own 'Under the Sea' card using orange as my base card and layering teal card over the top. To give the card a bit of extra detail I've used gold dot washi tape (I love washi tape)
Next I die cut two hearts and hand-cut two rectangles of patterned paper. The die cut hearts have been layered & glued onto the nautical themed rectangle and a gold heart sticker on the blue rectangle. I've them added a sentiment in the bottom right corner.

I had fun making these cards yesterday and hope to make a few more cards today after I've done my chores of course!

Make Cards Today magazine is always a treat to get as its full of wonderful goodies! Stamps, embossing folders, decoupage, papers and fabulous ideas! I still have many more cards to make from the April 2019 issue and another 2 issues to explore! Lucky its Queen's Birthday Weekend and I've got an extra day to craft!

Drawing

Hello there!

Recently I felt like getting back into drawing and headed down to the library to borrow a few books to get the inspiration and ideas flowing.

I'd love to be one of those artists who could just sit down and draw ANYTHING! but the truth is i'm not that way inclined so I tend to stick to drawing simple things.

Anyway...animals turned out to be the on the cards for this little drawing session of mine.

I'm planning on designing a couple of cards with these drawing so stay tuned for future "card posts.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend

Origami Tutorials

After my last post I was inspired to make more cards featuring origami as these cards are super fun to make.

Upon searching Youtube for tutorials I came across some very cool origami things to make and just had to share these on my blog!

Some wonderful ideas here!

Origami Coat Cards

With winter fast approaching here in New Zealand (I think we skipped autumn this year and went straight to winter!) and the urge to be snugged up in the craft room making cards, what better design than a winter themed birthday card.

First things first, we need to learn how to make an origami coat, that's where good old Youtube comes in handy. Click on the tutorial to learn how to make an origami coat.

These little coats are so fun to make! I went a little overboard making them

Now that we have our coat the next thing we need to do is choose a colour for the base card. I have used teal coloured card cut to 10.5cm x 15cm

We also need backing paper. I have use blue corrugated card cut to 9.5cm x 14cm

To really make the little coat stand out I've glued a heart shaped paper doily onto my blue corrugated backing paper and hot glued the little coat to it.

Now that the card is almost complete we just need to add the finishing touches. Every winter coat needs a good pair of heels to accompany it and a purse. I used a stencil  from the Kluts Paper Fashion book to draw the shoes and purse and cut them out by hand.

If you don't have a stencil to trace a pair of heels you may want to use the template...(you will need to reduce it in size through your printer options)
Now that we have added our finishing touches, we need to add our sentiment. To make the "Warmest  Wishes" sentiment I cut a rectangle of both sparkly foam card and  'wood look' paper. I used stamping letters to spell out my sentiment.
